The advantages: Why impregnation / waterproofing / proofing?
In addition to the long-lasting protective effect of our Nano-Care® impregnation solutions, the impregnations offer a number of other useful benefits. Below you will find the most important properties why you should choose a Nano-Care® impregnation:
| Longevity and value retention | Nano-Care® impregnations protect materials from premature ageing caused by environmental influences and thus extend their service life. Well-maintained and impregnated items such as furniture or sofas retain their value for longer and therefore generate higher revenues when resold. In addition, the original properties of the materials are retained, such as the breathability of leather or the elasticity of textiles, ensuring lasting functionality with the best possible protection of the material. |
| Water and weather resistance | Our impregnations offer reliable and lasting protection against moisture and are water-repellent – from light drops to heavy rain. They protect materials from the effects of moisture and weathering, ensuring long-term protection. |
| Health and hygiene | By reducing moisture, our impregnations inhibit the formation of mold and bacteria. This is particularly important in damp areas such as bathrooms. Impregnation / waterproofing / proofing on kitchen surfaces, for example, also makes cleaning easier, keeping work surfaces clean and hygienic. |
| Economic efficiency | Impregnated surfaces are easier to clean as dirt and stains are much less likely to stick to them. This reduces cleaning and maintenance costs. |
| Environmental friendliness | Thanks to our impregnations, aggressive and environmentally harmful cleaning liquids can be completely dispensed with during cleaning. In addition, less water needs to be used to clean the impregnated surface, which directly benefits the environment. |

Application requirements for impregnation / waterproofing / proofing
Careful preparation of the surface to be treated is crucial for impregnation / waterproofing / proofing to be effective. In the following, you will learn how to prepare the materials ideally and apply the impregnation professionally to achieve optimum results.
Material compatibility and preparation of the substrate
Thorough preparation is the first and most important step to ensure optimum adhesion of the impregnation / waterproofing / proofing. First, you should thoroughly remove all residues of grease, oil, dust and other contaminants before applying the impregnation. Make sure that the surface is completely dry, as residual moisture can impair adhesion, and that surfaces that are not to be impregnated are properly covered or glued down. Important: Make sure that the material to be treated is compatible with the impregnation / waterproofing / proofing. Ideally, test the impregnation / waterproofing / proofing in advance on a small, invisible area of the material (e.g. on the underside of a sofa).
Application process
When applying the impregnation, it is important to wear the appropriate protective clothing and to follow all the instructions in the safety data sheet. The impregnation / waterproofing / proofing can be applied using various methods, depending on the respective coating solution. You can find out which application method is possible for the respective coating in the product data sheet, whereby the following application processes are possible:
Spraying process
The most common method for applying impregnation / waterproofing / proofing evenly to the surface. Particularly practical for self-application and for large surfaces.
Brush or wipe method
Ideal for hard-to-reach areas or smaller surfaces where precision is required.
Immersion process
This method is particularly suitable for industrial applications in order to treat textiles efficiently and comprehensively. Alternatively, the dipping process or the padding process can be used.
Wash-in process
A special method for textiles that are washed regularly. The coating is applied in the washing machine, which enables even distribution and easy integration into the care process.
Forms of application
Textiles
Washing or spraying process |
Leather
Wiping with a sponge or cloth
Wood
Brush or spray method
Stone
Spray or wipe method
Regardless of which method you choose, it is important that the impregnation is applied evenly and completely to the material. After application, the impregnation must cure for a certain amount of time to penetrate the material. Depending on how porous the material is, the impregnation will penetrate deeper or less deeply into the surface. The drying time depends on the ambient conditions and should be carefully observed in order to achieve optimum results; it is therefore essential to observe the minimum application time according to the product data sheet.
Aftercare
Regular maintenance is essential to ensure the long-term protective effect of the impregnated materials. Gentle cleaning agents should be used and aggressive chemicals avoided, as these can damage the impregnation. If the protective properties, such as the water-repellent effect of the coating, wear off, it is advisable to refresh the impregnation / waterproofing / proofing in order to achieve optimum results.
Sealing vs. waterproofing / proofing: a comparison
Feature | Sealing | Impregnation / waterproofing / proofing |
Mode of action | Forms a superficial protective layer on the material | penetrates into the pores of the material, smoothes them |
Durability | usually shorter, as the top layer is exposed to mechanical wear | longer, as it penetrates deeper into the material and thus protects for longer |
Optics | may cause a change in appearance under certain circumstances | Usually completely invisible visually |
Vapor permeability and breathability | usually lower, as a dense layer is formed on the material surface | generally higher, as the impregnation has breathable properties |
Areas of application | indoor area only | Indoor and outdoor use possible |
How much does impregnation / waterproofing / proofing cost?
The cost of impregnation / waterproofing / proofing depends on a wide range of factors. It is therefore not possible to make a general statement about the costs without taking the following parameters into account:
- Material: depending on the type of material, such as natural stone, wood or textiles, different costs
- Surface area: more impregnation / waterproofing / proofing agent required depending on the size of the surface to be impregnated
- Quality: high-quality impregnating agents have a higher purchase price, but pay for themselves over time through the long-term value retention of the material
- Application: the amount of work required, including pre-treatment of the surface, also influences the price.
We will be happy to advise you in detail on your individual project and calculate the necessary impregnation solutions. To get a first impression of the approximate costs, you will find some price indicators below
