This process occurs slowly and is often not noticed until it is too late. Over time, this causes an airplane or helicopter to become chalky and dull.

A ceramic coating can prevent oxidation and provides immediately visible and long-lasting gloss. This safe and relatively fast process restores paint gloss by utilizing the thickness of the paint. The loss of gloss caused by oxidation occurs because the top layer of paint is damaged and no longer reflects light effectively. By carefully removing this damaged layer and creating an even surface, the aircraft receives a fresh coat of clean paint that can then be sealed. The ceramic coating bonds with the paint and guarantees extremely durable protection against oxidation, as the paint is henceforth protected from chemical effects and UV rays. The coating resists the action of degreasers or fuel and, with proper care, will last for many years without needing to be reapplied.

The implementation of a ceramic coating can be done in a few days. In addition, in most cases it is cheaper and faster than a new coat of paint.
Experts control exactly how much or little paint can be removed at ceramic coating. The total thickness of the aircraft paint varies from machine to machine, but it can usually be assumed to be around 100 microns. In most cases, the amount of paint removed is so small that it is difficult to measure a difference in paint thickness even with a digital paint thickness gauge. A ceramic sealant can usually be applied within a few days and is often less expensive and faster than a new coat of paint.
The previous color correction and the smooth new ceramic coating create a surface that ideally reflects light – resulting in increased gloss and a color-intensive appearance. However, removing oxidized paint layers not only improves the gloss of the aircraft, but also proves beneficial when cleaning the machine. When the oxidation is removed, it also removes fused contamination from engine oil and exhaust soot. The new smoother surface is then easy to clean.
