The technology of nanocoating is based on a discovery by Wilhelm Barthlott, a German botanist and bionicist who is considered the discoverer of the lotus effect since the 1970s. The starting point is a physical-chemical phenomenon that can be transferred from nature to technology.
Why dirt and frustration simply roll off
The name nano coating is derived from the Greek "nanos", which means "dwarf". Nano technology is based on research and technology development, which on an atomic level has a size of one to one hundred nanometers. One nanometer corresponds to ten millionths of a centimeter; compared to one millimeter, this is roughly the size ratio of the circumference of a soccer ball to the earth's surface.
These structures create a consistent arrangement of molecules that are superimposed on surfaces and in the process the nano-particles combine to form a continuous coating. If there are uneven surfaces, the smallest particles fill them, creating a smooth coating surface. The enormously small pores in surfaces are also filled with them.
Among other things, this leads to a special bond with the surface to be coated, resulting in intensive durability. In addition, this filling ensures that external influences such as dirt, bacteria or other particles come into contact with the surface or settle in the fine pores over the long term. Due to a strong chemical bond with the surface, the surface tension decreases. The nano coating forms self-organizing anti-adhesion components. These become a homogeneous barrier layer, which is not visible, but is extremely durable.
A nano coating is easy to do by hand. Nevertheless, there are a few things you need to consider to get all the advantages of a nanocoating. First of all, the substrate must be cleaned as well as possible. Coarse dirt and dust must be cleaned carefully. The surface should also be free of tensides. The pre-treatment of a nano precleaner is recommended. Afterwards, the surface is rinsed with water and has to dry completely.
A lint-free cloth, such as a microfiber cloth, is best suited for applying the nano coating. The coating is sprayed onto it and evenly distributed on the surface to be treated, similar to a conventional polish. Finally, it is polished out. It is particularly important that the coating can dry and harden. Only then does it form a resistant film on surfaces over the long term. In vehicle reconditioning companies, vehicles are usually left standing overnight to ensure a long waiting time, which contributes significantly to maximum effectiveness of the nanocoating.

How long a nano coating lasts depends on whether it has been applied correctly and on the quality of the product. It is easy to apply and spread, has a low density and crowning corresponding to nanotechnology, has a strong lotus effect, high strength and offers long-term protection. In addition, the range of nano products is extensive, so there is a good chance of losing track. Promises are not reliable reference points that guarantee an excellent product. When buying, you should pay attention to detailed information, for example how long the protection period is and, above all, whether the product is actually nanotechnology. It is also always advantageous to know whether a test confirms the effectiveness.
A nano coating is only removed very slowly by washing or the stress of high temperature on surfaces. Even in contact with salt or bird droppings, the nano coating proves to be very robust and resistant.
However, it is advisable to wipe off such pollutants from the nano coating quickly if they are not washed away by the nano-effect. As a rule, a simple rinse with a water hose is then sufficient. The rest is done by the beading effect and the self-cleaning mechanism of the nanotechnology.
